As a part of our ongoing efforts to spotlight our chapter ARMA Business Partners, the Greater Sacramento Chapter of ARMA will periodically share articles that highlight information about the businesses that help fund the activities of our chapter. Our first spotlight is for InfoCompass Business Solutions. InfoCompass Business Solutions is a local records and information management consulting firm founded by Nitza Medina-Garcia, CRM. Nitza is a Certified Records Manager and is currently serving as Past-President of our chapter and is a frequent chapter speaker.
Thank you for being a Business Partner of the Greater Sacramento Chapter of ARMA. Please tell us why you chose to support our organization.
I chose to support the Sacramento ARMA chapter because of the long standing support I have given to the chapter, as the current Past-President and as a frequent chapter speaker. I think it is important for records managers to have access to educational resources and local networking opportunities in the Greater Sacramento area.
Please tell us about InfoCompass and the services you provide.
Our services include helping organizations with their records and information management needs. I normally like to start with a business information strategy session where I can find out at a high level the information challenges facing the business. I can help the business prioritize the challenges and give some immediate strategy ideas. I can then recommend further services if it makes sense, such as retention schedule development, records program development, technology evaluation and deployment or file plan/taxonomy development.
Give us a little background about yourself? How long have you been in the business? How long have you been with InfoCompass?
I have been in the archives and records management industry since 1997. I managed my own records center in New York City for several years, then when I moved back to Sacramento, I was recruited to work for a software company called Interwoven to help with deploying records management software with clients around the globe. Interwoven ultimately was bought by Hewlett Packard. In 2015 while HP was going through a reorganization, I decided to go out on my own and found InfoCompass Business Solutions. I have been in business since 2015 providing records management services and providing my expertise in iManage Records Manager software.
What makes you successful at what you do?
I think my ability to listen, speak my client’s language and translate my client’s needs into an actionable plan has been a key to our firm’s success. Many information technology firms may be really good at the technical side, but often fail at speaking the language of business and records management.
Tell us something about your life outside of work (volunteer, hobby, animals, etc.)
I am a member of the Rotary Club of Laguna Sunrise (in Elk Grove) where I participate in local service projects and helped coordinate the Taste of Elk Grove community fundraiser that highlights local restaurants, wineries and breweries.
I also am an avid scrapbooker as I love documenting family and local history. I guess that is the origin of my love of record keeping!
